History

Pabst Racing has been preparing winning racecars since 1983. The Pabst Team was started by Augie Pabst Jr., former sports car racing legend from the 1950s and early 1960s. Augie won many races and two national championships throughout his career, and drove many legendary cars such as the Birdcage Maserati, Cunningham, Lola Coupe, Ferrari, and the ever popular Meister Brau Scarab.

In 1983, Augie started Pabst Racing to campaign a Tiga Sports 2000 in SCCA Nationals and the Sports 2000 Pro Series. In 1991 his son, Augie III took over management of Pabst Racing. From 1991 to 1997 Augie III drove in the Dodge Shelby Pro Series and the U.S. Formula 2000 Series. In 1994 and 1995, Augie finished the season 2nd in the Championship, and missed the Championship by 2 points in 1995.

In 1998, Augie decided to focus on the Services end of the business and devote 100 percent of his time to owning and managing Pabst Racing Services. Since 1991, Pabst Racing Services has maintained a variety of cars including SCCA Spec Racers, Shelby Can-Am, 911 Porsche, Ford Mustang GT-1, and primarily the Ford/Zetec powered Van Diemen Formula 2000 cars. Current Toyota Atlantic contender, Tonis Kasemets and Pabst Racing teamed together from 2001-2003, winning 4 poles and 5 races in Formula 2000.

In 2004, the Pabst Team prepared a variety of cars including a Formula SCCA, Formula Continental, Porsche GT3-Cup, and a Formula Mazda for a one-off Star Mazda Series entry as well as some SVRA and VSCDA Vintage Racing Events.

2005 was a fantastic year for Pabst.  Augie Pabst III worked as crew chief for Tonis Kasemets again, this time in the ChampCar Atlantic Series.  Winning 3 races and 2nd place in the 2005 Atlantic Championship.  The bright yellow #6 Flexovit Abrasives car was competitive every weekend.  A broken shift lever at the San Jose, CA round took them out of the lead to an unfortunate DNF.  In the end, it was those points that cost the Championship title.  Pabst also prepared various SCCA Formula Atlantic, GT-2 Porsche, and Historic Indy Lights during 2005.

2006 was spent running selected IMSA Lites events as well as SCCA National Formula Atlantic and C Sports Racing cars.  Restoring a 2000 Marcos Mantis for vintage racing was a focus at the raceshop.  The team also competed in various vintage racing events.

2007 started off at the annual SCCA Winter Nationals as well as running Tonis Kasemets in the Parallax/Elan DP-02 IMSA Lites car for the first four rounds of the IMSA Lites Series.  Kasemets was leading the championship after the Miller Motorsports Park victory, until a shortage of sponsorship forced an early end to that season.  The Pabst Team began preparing the Parallax Crawford Ford Daytona Prototype for testing and eventually racing at the 2007 25 Hours of Thunderhill, CA.  This is the longest race in the world with a variety of sportscars competing in various classes.  After almost 2,000 miles and 25 solid hours of running, the Parallax DP car won the race.  Drivers Bob Lojkovic, Tonis Kasemets, Steve Knapp, Rick Bartuska, and Steve Kohli did a fine job at bringing home the victory.  Hoosier Tires supported the team with superior tires and excellent service as is expected from a company like Hoosier.
